The HAU, a single coil proportional valve driver, provides precise control of a single coil proportional valve and can be tailored for use on low current EDC valves such as Sauer-Danfoss™ 90 series, and enables the user to add ramping and/or dither to minimize stiction and hysteresis of the valve.
Features of the HAU Single Coil Driver:
Rugged Construction: ¨ Fuse protection in series with power to the unit allows inputs and outputs to be hooked up backwards, shorted to each other, grounded or hooked up to +/- 30 volts without harming the unit. ¨ Power Supply input is protected against automotive spikes. ¨ Epoxy potting provides mechanical protection and environmental resistance, including sealing potentiometers against moisture. Setup and Installation: ¨ Hookup is through an 8-position terminal strip that will accept up to 12-gauge wire. ¨ Labels located next to each of the potentiometers and terminal strip connections simplify hook up and adjustment. ¨ A PWM% indicator LED turns from red to green as the output current goes from zero to maximum. ¨ Minimum input response (dead band elimination), maximum input response, ramp times, dither amplitude and frequency can be adjusted with 10-turn potentiometers for precise control. Note: The HAU Driver can be ordered with only the desired controls. Control Inputs: ¨ Accepts control inputs of -5V to +5V, 0 to +10V, 4 to 20 mA or an external potentiometer. Note: An external potentiometer and knob are supplied with every unit. Power Supply: ¨ Power supply voltage range is from 11 to 30 volts. (12 or 24 Volt Systems) ¨ Red power LED indicates sufficient power present for proper operation. ¨ The coil can be driven to within 1.0 volt of the power supply voltage at maximum current. Note: Some 10-volt coils require up to 13 volts for full valve shift when hot, making this an important feature for mobile systems. Current Capabilities: ¨ The HAU Series can drive coils with requirements up to 5 amps. ¨ Current to the coil is regulated to compensate for coil resistance change, power supply voltage fluctuations and voltage drops in the wiring going to the coil. Pulse Width Modulation (PWM): ¨ Variable current is achieved by high frequency PWM to shift the valve spool. ¨ High frequency PWM also provides excellent current regulation against power supply fluctuation and ripple or coil resistance change. Dither Oscillator: ¨ An optional on-board dither generator provides dither with adjustable amplitude and factory preset adjustable frequency. Note: Amplitude can be left at zero should dither not be required. Options Available: ¨ "Q" Option, Weatherpack Connectors with 6-inch leads. “Q” option mating connector kit P/N: 999-10169. See Order Guide for details. ¨ "V" Option, Single-turn waterproof potentiometer with bezel marked 0 to 100. See Order Guide for details.
