The following is a list of terms commonly found in our user guides and installation guides. Refer to these definitions as needed for clarification.

For a refresher on electro-hydraulics terms, formulas and general discussion, please refer to our primer.

Anti-Stall

A control algorithm available in the HCT PR controller. As the engine RPM increases the PWM current out of the controller increases, anti-stall therefore removes the load from the engine as it starts to bog down.

Command

Refers to the electronic signal to our controllers that causes the associated PWM output to change.

Control

See Command.

Dither

HCT imbeds a low frequency oscillation (dither) on top of the PWM frequency which dithers the valve spool just enough to keep it in motion, thus eliminating stiction and improving hystersis.

EEPROM/Permanent Memory

This  memory contains user settings that are loaded into temporary at power up. User settings must be saved into EEPROM using the setup program.

Log Data

This feature stores 254 samples of the controller performance creating a file that can be graphed using excel.  This feature allows the user to take a snapshot of the system performance and settings for troubleshooting and system analysis.

PWM

Pulse Width Modulation - This is the rapid switching of a low resistance switch at the PWM frequency to set the coil current to a valve coil.

Restore file to settings and EEPROM

This command allows the user to place settings located in a file on the computer into the controller temporary and permanent memories.

Restore settings from EEPROM

This command allows the user to save the permanent/EEPROM memory into the active temporary memory.

RPM Regulation

A control algorithm available in the HCT PR controller. This closed loop application monitors a pulse stream to determine the rotation speed.  The user sets the desired speed and the controller increases or decreases PWM current to the valve to maintain the desired speed.

Save settings to EEPROM

This command allows the user to save the controller temporary memory into its’ permanent memory.

Save Settings to File & EEPROM

This command saves the current settings or temporary memory to EEPROM and prompts you to save this data as a file.

Set-Up Program

HCT microprocessor based controllers use a LabView software program to communicate between your PC and the controller. The Set-Up program is the user interface used to tune and optimize the controller.

Temporary Memory

The memory that the device is using at any given time.  This memory is erased when the unit power is removed.
