The proportional outputs in the DVC5 will now automatically adjust (Auto-Range) to drive valve(s) up to 3.0 Amps.  Previous designs of the DVC5 required specification of the maximum coil current prior to ordering.

Additional functionality in the DVC5:

  1. Two more high side outputs

  2. One more digital input

  3. Four programmable LED indicators.

Overview

The DVC5 Programmable Valve Controller has enough processing power and input output functionality when operating as a single control module to support a wide range of hydraulic applications.  Should more capability be needed than provided by the DVC5, then the DVC10 and the DVC expansion modules can be used (see the DVC System Architecture drawing for available DVC expansion modules).  All DVC5 programs can be transferred to the DVC10 Programming Tool.  The DVC5 is packaged in a small rugged enclosure. All connectors are sealed and the module is encapsulated to withstand extreme conditions in the harsh mobile operating environment.

The DVC5 comes in two versions.  One with and one without a direct J1939 CAN Bus connector while both versions support an RS232 connection to the DVC61 text display device.

There are two options for expansion.  First, you can program multiple DVC5's and interconnect them using the CANbus network or second, HCT offers our DVC10 with up to 16 expansion modules with different functionalities.

Below is a chart indicating the input/outputs supported by the DVC5 contrasted with that of the DVC10.

The following describes the inputs and outputs briefly.  Refer to the DVC System Programming Tool Manual for detailed descriptions and how to control or sense the particular type of I/O.

Valves:

The two DVC5 output groups (2 High Side and 1 PWM output each) can each control 1 to 3 valves depending on the type of valve.  The High-Side and PWM outputs can be used stand-alone or in conjunction with one another (High-side attached to the + coil and PWM to the –coil).

High Side Outputs: (Up to 3 Amps each)  The High-Side outputs provide +POWER to a valves coil when enabled.  An indicator located on the module displays the status of each output.

PWM Outputs: (Up to 3 Amps each)  The PWM outputs are used to vary current to the valves (switch to ground at a high frequency). This regulated valve current provides a constant valve output, which is unchanged by coil resistance or power supply fluctuations.

Digital Inputs: (0 to +Supply) These inputs are used to sense switches being open or closed.

Analog Inputs: (0 to +5 Volts)  Analog inputs are voltage level reading inputs. They are used for various types of sensors from potentiometers (i.e. joysticks) to temperature sensors.

Analog/Pulse Inputs: (0 to +5 Volts)  These inputs are programmable to accept the most common sensor outputs.

Two types of inputs are supported.  They are Analog input Voltage and Pulse input Voltage.   The Pulse input may be used as either a RPM Pulse Input or a Pulse Counter.

RS232:

he RS-232 port is used for programming, monitoring and driving an external text display (DVC61).

Direct Connect J1939:

The DVC5 may be used to send and receive messages directly on the J1939 CAN Bus while conducting normal functions with the other inputs and outputs.

Note: All analog/pulse and analog inputs have a corresponding Pot Reference output (5-Volts through a 1K resistor). All High Side, PWM and digital inputs have an LED indicator to show activity.

The DVC5 Programming Tool software, P/N: 998-00003 provides each individual user the ability to program the DVC5 to work in a variety of applications without large outside development costs.  The DVC5 software package includes two applications named "Programming Tool" and "Program Loader Monitor".  These applications provide the means to configure, design, create, load, and monitor the user application.  The Programming Tool is used to configure the inputs/outputs and program the control logic for your system.  The Program Loader Monitor is used to download the user application program files to the DVC5.  It also performs real time monitoring of your system inputs/ outputs.  The Users Manual provides instructions on how to use the DVC programming tool along with definitions, programming steps and examples.

Note: It is assumed that the user of the programming tool has prior experience working in the Windows™ environment and some basic programming skills.

The controller is packaged in a small rugged enclosure. All connectors are sealed and the module is encapsulated to withstand extreme conditions in the harsh mobile operating environment.

POWER SUPPLY

A.     The DVC5 Power Input has the following features:

1.      Voltage Input Range   8.5Vdc to 32Vdc

2.      Reverse polarity protection and transient protection up to 1.5K Watts Peak Pulse Power Dissipation

3.      More than one power and ground pin must be used if driving over 3 amps (at one time).  Each increment of 3 Amps needs an additional power and ground connection.

INDICATORS

A.     Power LED (Qty 1) (Green) – Blinks if the power supply voltage is above +30Vdc. Turns off if the power supply voltage drops below +8.0Vdc.

B.     Status  LED (Qty 1) (Red) – This LED is programmable and is commonly used for error status or blink codes.

C.    Digital Input Status  (Qty 4) (Green) – Turns on when the corresponding input is activated. Inputs can be programmed as active high or low.

D.    Programmable LED's (Qty 4) - LED indicators commonly used to indicate an error code (blinking) in combination with the status LED.

E.    High-Side Output Driver Status  (Qty 6) (Green) – Turns on when the corresponding High-side output is activated. Blinks once per second for an open circuit. Blinks four times per second for a short circuit.

F.     PWM Output Driver Status  (Qty 2) (R/G) – This LED displays duty-cycle status for the corresponding PWM output. The LED will display from red to green as the duty-cycle changes from 0% to 100% (50% displaying yellow).
